Why clearance has to be confirmed
A vasectomy does not immediately clear sperm from semen. Sperm can persist for weeks or months after the procedure, and laboratory testing is needed before relying on the procedure for contraception. Continue using another form of contraception until your physician confirms clearance.
Why sensitivity matters
Not all post-vasectomy tests report residual sperm at the same low concentrations. Mate Health evaluates for residual sperm down to 0.01 M/mL, providing quantitative visibility when very low concentrations remain.Under current AUA guidance, mail-in specimens evaluated more than two hours after collection must show azoospermia, meaning no sperm detected, for contraceptive clearance. Your physician should make the final clearance decision.
